The 2020 Volkswagen Atlas has been named to the Best Family Car list by PARENTS magazine. It’s the third consecutive year the three-row SUV has received the designation.
“The 2020 Atlas provides American families with features and capabilities they need most, and we think it will continue to hit the mark with them going forward,” said Duncan Movassaghi, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Volkswagen of America Inc.
The testing team at PARENTS commended the vehicle for its comfortable driving experience and safety features, its car-seat capability and its three-zone climate control.
The magazine also considers crash test data from the National Highway Safety Administration, car-seat checks conducted by Super Car Seat Geek and behind the wheel tests done by Auto Reporter Rob Stumpf, which evaluates braking, steering, acceleration, technology and more.
Introduced in the spring of 2017, the Atlas was the brand’s first three-row SUV. Designed with families in mind, the 2020 vehicle is available with two engine options — a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6 — and with seven trim levels. Volkswagen’s 4Motion® all-wheel drive is available with every trim package and standard on SEL Premium models.
Volkswagen makes the Atlas SUV at its manufacturing facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In addition to the Atlas, the plant’s 3,800 employees also make the Passat.
