
Volvo Car USA set a new April sales record for vehicles with 11,036 cars sold, up 185.5% over 2020. Volvo Car USA sold 3,866 vehicles in the same period in 2020. It is the 11th consecutive month sales have increased on a year-over-year basis. Globally, Volvo Car increased sales by 97.5% in April over the same month in 2020, with a total of 62,724 cars sold in 2021 compared to 31,760 vehicles in April 2020.
The sales growth has been driven globally by vehicle sales in the U.S. and Europe. In the U.S., the brand’s luxury SUVs led the growth, accounting for 89% of total sales.
The brand’s Recharge models — vehicles that are either fully electric or a plug-in hybrid — continued to grow, accounting for 15.7% of total April sales in the U.S. Globally, the Recharge models made up 24.3% of sales.

Volvo opened its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Ridgeville, South Carolina in 2018 where it produces the S60 sedan. In the near future, it will begin producing the XC90 SUV. The 2.3 million-square-foot plant can produce up to 150,000 cars annually. It employs nearly 1,500 workers.
