Mobis Alabama Expands Into Birmingham

Mobis US Alabama LLC in Montgomery

Mobis US Alabama LLC, a subsidiary of Hyundai Mobis and a tier one supplier to Hyundai and Kia, will open a new facility at the Jefferson County Metropolitan Industrial Park in McCalla, Alabama, a $15.8 million capital investment and creating 120 jobs within three years.

Established in 2002, Mobis Alabama already has a plant in Montgomery where the company manufactures bumper assemblies and instrument panels for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia. In addition, Mobis provides after-service parts to dealerships, auto parts stores and other parts distribution centers through its Redistribution Center.

“Mobis is excited about opening its second facility in Alabama, this time utilizing the great workforce in the Jefferson County area,” said James Jeon, program manager for Mobis US Alabama. “We are thankful for the tremendous support we have received from the Jefferson County Commission, the city of Birmingham and the Birmingham Business Alliance, and we look forward to being a part of this dynamic community.”

The Birmingham Business Alliance has worked with Mobis on this expansion since 2018. “To land this partnership with Mobis is a tremendous win for Jefferson County at a critical time for jobs and investment,” said Brian Jennings, vice president of economic development at the BBA. “This project, when operational, will provide impacts beyond those in jobs and investment and put our region closer to building a cluster of next-generation automobile technologies and manufacturers.”

The Jefferson County Metropolitan Industrial Park is currently home to 13 companies, including other auto suppliers like Gestamp and Yanfeng.
