Hanwha Advanced Materials America LLC will expand its Opelika facility in the Northeast Opelika Industrial Park and spend nearly $20 million in building and equipment, city officials announced in late April.
The addition will mean 100 new jobs over the next three years, Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller says. It will bring the South Korea-based company’s total investment in Opelika to nearly $80 million. Hanwha began its operation in Opelika in 2005.
Hanwha is a Tier 1 supplier to Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia and produces headliners, underbody shields, bumper back beams and the bumper’s impact-resistant core.
The company specializes in high-quality lightweight composite materials such as Stronglite, Superlite, Bufflite, Xtralite and Intermlite. Its expanded facility will increase production capacity as well add more diversity to its product line.
