General Motors’ OnStar brand has offered drivers peace of mind with roadside assistance for more than 20 years. In the near future, it will go one step further and offer automotive insurance.
OnStar Insurance Services, GM’s new insurance agency, will be the exclusive agent for OnStar Insurance and will leverage GM’s digital experience to provide customers with fair, personalized and easy-to-use digital insurance, according to the company.
“OnStar Insurance will promote safety, security and peace of mind,” said Andrew Rose, president of OnStar Insurance Services. “We aim to be an industry leader, offering insurance in an innovative way. GM customers who have subscribed to OnStar and connected services will be eligible to receive discounts, while also receiving fully-integrated services from OnStar Insurance Services.”
OnStar Insurance Services is working with its insurance carrier partners to remove biased judgment out of insurance shopping by focusing on factors within the customer’s control, such as individual vehicle usage and rewarding smart driving habits that benefit road safety. The OnStar Insurance Services will build on what they have learned from OnStar Smart Driver to provide proactive recommendations for smarter driving habits, so customers can drive more safely and potentially earn discounts. In addition, it will provide online support.
OnStar Insurance Services, based in Arizona, will be initially offered to GM employees in the fourth quarter of this year in Arizona, expanding out to additional employees and the general public in early 2021.
