Freightliner Custom Chassis Expands

Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. is expanding its operations in Cherokee County, South Carolina. The more than $13.9 million investment was announced in late 2019 and is expected to create 193 new jobs when the expansion is complete in early 2022.

Established in 1995, FCCC is a division of Daimler Trucks North America LLC and currently employs more than 1,000 team members making premium vehicle chassis for luxury RVs, school buses, commercial buses and walk-in vans in Gaffney, South Carolina.

The company is also on the leading edge of alternative propulsion vehicle design and manufacturing, including propane, natural gas and all-electric chassis.

“At FCCC, we take pride in everything we do and are driven by a deep desire to innovate to meet the needs of our customers, lead the market and deliver memories, one ride at a time,” said FCCC President and CEO Jeff Sather at the time of the announcement. “We’re thrilled that this expansion will allow us to grow our team and continue to invest in the industry and in South Carolina.”

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and a $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant for building and site improvements for the project.

“Freightliner Custom Chassis Corp. is a well-established and valued corporate citizen in Cherokee County,” said Cherokee County Council Chairman Tim Spencer at the time of the announcement. “We are thankful for the trust that FCCC has placed in Cherokee County by, once again, expanding their operations.”

Back in 2016, FCCC had a $22.7 million expansion that results in a new logistics center, additional office space and more employee parking, as well as boosting the company’s production line use of assembling chassis parts into kits for later assembly.

Employing more than 1,000 people in manufacturing, customer support and retail facilities, FCCC is the world’s largest manufacturer of diesel walk-in van chassis, with nearly two-thirds of all diesel walk-in van chassis sold made by the company. FCCC also produces more than a quarter of the market in conventional school bus chassis. It offers 24/7 factory direct support, a nationwide service network of more than 400 dealers in the U.S. and Canada and an official customer-support mobile app.
