BMW of North America has reported that second quarter sales for this year were 96,561 vehicles in the U.S., an 89.5% increase over the same period in 2020 and a 15% increase compared to the second quarter in 2019. Throughout the first half of the year, BMW sales increased 52.5% compared to 2020 and outpaced 2019 sales by 8.9%.
“Thanks to the continued commitment of our dealers, and the strength of our production network, we have met the robust customer demand for BMW vehicles, and achieved a record number of customer deliveries in the quarter,” said Bernhard Kuhnt, president and CEO of BMW of North America.
BMW brand sales were balanced across the model range for the second quarter of 2021 with the BMW X3, X5 and X7 Sports Activity Vehicles and the BMW 3 Series sedan as standouts. The company’s lineup of Sports Activity Vehicles accounted for 60% of the quarter’s sales.
BMW builds a number of its Sports Activity Vehicles at its plant in Greer, South Carolina. The X3, X5 and X7 are all built there, along with the X4 and X6 models.
